I will fight for working families and deliver progressive change for Ward 12.
My name is Aurin Chowdhury.
I am proud to be the Councilwoman representing the 12th Ward of Minneapolis. I am overjoyed to be running for re-election and to continue representing our ward.
I’m a first-generation Bengali-American, daughter of working-class immigrants, community organizer, former policy aide, and renter. I’m running for re-election to continue fighting for working families, delivering progressive change for our communities, and working collaboratively to move our city forward.
Now more than ever, we need leadership that not only defends our communities from attacks at the federal level, but leadership that acts on the immediate needs of our community, and delivers the progress we need to make a better world. That's the kind of leader I am and will continue to be.
I have loved representing you for the last year and a half. I have learned first hand the amount of passion and dedication the residents of the 12th Ward have, and their willingness to not only ask for change, but be a part of it. As the Council Member for Ward 12, I have not just championed our ward’s values, but put them into action. In 2024, my office held over 50 constituent office hours in the community. Thanks to you, my neighbors, we have done so much great work in a very short time, and I have learned what Ward 12 community members want to see from the City. I am so incredibly proud of the work we have done!
Here is a snapshot of what we have accomplished together:
Allocated funds for programs that help our seniors age in place, and support the caregivers helping seniors and people with disabilities live independently.
Led on humanely addressing unsheltered homelessness and authoring an encampment removal reporting ordinance to increase transparency and accountability, and ensure residents are treated with respect and dignity.
Led on public safety service expansions by establishing the Lake Street Safety Center, and allocating funding for safety services in the Hiawatha neighborhood, including transit safety programming along transit corridors like 46th & Hiawatha.
Implemented new traffic calming measures on major corridors to reduce speeding and prevent accidents, with extra emphasis near schools.
Lowered the Property Tax Levy in the 2025 budget from 8.3% to 6.8%.
Created a new loan program for businesses impacted by road construction and other hardships.
Worked with community and other electeds to help Save Cooper Playground from removal.
This is just the beginning. Imagine all the additional great things we can accomplish together in the next four years!
I have a strong record of public service and advocacy. I’ve built a reputation of rolling up my sleeves and working directly with you and our neighbors. I’m excited to keep bringing your concerns to City Hall, and building the city we deserve block by block and policy by policy. I am so grateful to have earned your support in 2023, and I hope to have it throughout 2025.
